18817 posts vacant in 18 Govt departments | Tackling unemployment | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 11: While government boasts of measures to tackle the problem of unemployment, 18 government departments are waiting to fill about 18817 posts to improve their functioning and delivery system. As per the official figures, Health and Medical Education department leads the list with 6046 vacant posts followed by Agriculture department with 2392 posts. The General Administrative Department awaits filling of 207 vacancies. In Technical Education department, 1437 posts remains unfilled. About 319 posts are vacant in Transport Department alone, while in Cooperative 344 posts are still vacant. Other departments that are still waiting for the recruitment agencies to fill the vacant posts include, Finance, 731, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD) 257, Animal and Sheep Husbandry 427, Revenue 2491, Higher Education 657, Labour and Employment 281, Science and Technology 132, Planning and Development 843, Information 240, Tourism 35, Estates department 65 and Power Development Department (PDD) 1913. As per available data number of poists have been referred to the recruiting agencies but delay on their part and non availability of the funds has become a major stumbling block in the way of filling these vacencies. Pertinent to mention gazetted and non-gazetted posts are referred to Public Service Commission (PSC) and Service Selection Board (SSB), the Class IV vacancies are filled by a committee constituted at District and Divisional level. However slow processing by the recruitment agencies had delayed the appointment of employees to man critical services in the state. Out of 6046 vacant posts, 3815 posts have been referred to recruitment agencies, but the process is quite slow. |
