Upgradation, expansion of Jammu Airport on anvil | | | Pankhuri Aggarwal
Jammu, Mar 11: A comprehensive plan had been formulated for the upgradation and expansion of Jammu Airport to provide all infrastructural facilities to the passengers. The expansion and up gradation of the airport is likely to complete within one year so that more than two big aircraft could land and takeoff simultaneously from Jammu, which is considered a strategic move for the development of the Jammu. Talking to Revenue Minister Raman Bhalla, he said, "The task force of the ministry had approved a plan of converting the Jammu airport into an international airport. The proposal had been sent to the Union Cabinet. He regretted that till now civil aviation development had been ignored in North India and appreciated the Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, for trying to bring the Jammu airports on the international aviation map". He further added, "There is a plan of building airports which would meet the international standard at Bangalore, Hyderabad and Goa. Since Jammu, including the Ladakh region, held special attraction for tourists, the up gradation of these airports in the state would be taken in hand on a priority basis". Ranbir Sallathia, a tourist said, "From the past so many years for travelling for business purpose, I have to go out of india and for that first I have to go to Delhi and further board my international flight. This proposal may not only add revenue and tourism but make it easy for us to travel and also curtail my personal expenditure". The expansion would ensure that instead of just three hundred passengers now more and more passengers should have a comfortable stay in lounge. Two aero bridges, both at Srinagar and Jammu, were to be raised. The ministry was also trying to develop facilities and infrastructure so that chartered flights could operate to Srinagar and Jammu. Several NRIs have already approached him to provide this facility so that they could visit tourists' resorts and the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine without wasting much time. The Union Minister of State said, "Up gradation of airports was necessary because they were strategic as far as the country's defense was involved. He assured that land occupied by the Army would be made available for the expansion of the airport. |
