early times report
RAJOURI, Mar 11: As the town starts limping back to normalcy, the administration today gave two hours relaxation in the curfew restrictions.
Heavy police deployment, however, continued in the town which witnessed clashes between two communities after attacks on Bhairav procession for two consecutive days last week. Today was the fifth day of curfew.
The miscreants, who had attacked the peaceful religious procession, were provoked by the alleged hate speech by VHP's Praveen Togadia in the town on March 4 last.
While in the old town here, curfew was relaxed from 4 pm to 6 pm, it was relaxed from 6 pm to 8 pm in the localities of Gujjar Mandi, Jawahar Nagar and Kheora.
People were seen buying essential commodities during the period of curfew relaxation which passed off peacefully as no untoward incident was reported from anywhere.
People, however, demanded the immediate release of eight youth of ward No 8 who were in police custody. Their release was must as it was linked to the return of peace in the town, they asserted.
Meanwhile, in a bid to defuse tension, authorities had also initiated talks with the representatives of two communities.
SSP, Rajouri, Vijay Singh Sambyal said the situation was under control and had been returning to normalcy.
"Police have initiated dialogue with members of both the communities to bring normalcy in the town. Meetings with them were held and we hope to resolve the issue soon," he added.
The SSP said additional cops had been deployed in the sensitive areas here to maintain peace.
"We have already detained 13 miscreants," he said and added that three more were
detained for violatiing curfew restrictions.
Meanwhile, some ministers, who were visit here today to take stock of the situation, could not come.
