Rs. 700 cr being spent on rural electrification
Jugal, Rigzin, Aijaz visit rural pockets of Reasi

JAMMU, JANUARY 22
To assess the pace of ongoing development works in hilly and backward areas of Bhumagh, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Mr. Jugal Kishore Sharma, Minister for Power Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora and Minister of State for Agriculture and Higher Education Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan visited village Kothru, Badota and Khani Dhanour in Bhumagh area of tehsil Reasi of Udhampur district yesterday.
District Development Commissioner, Udhampur Mr. O. P. Kalandria and Additional District Development Commissioner, Udhampur, Mr Khursheed Ahmad Bhat accompanied the Ministers.
The people the concerned areas gave a rousing reception to the Ministers and thanked for their visit to such far off and far-flung areas to assess the grievances of the rural masses.
Addressing largely attended public gathering at Kothru, Mr. Jora said that the state government is committed to equitable development of all areas especially rural and inaccessible pockets of the state. He revealed that funds to the tune of Rs 700 crore have been brought under power sector for electrification in all the rural areas of the state. Besides, an amount of Rs 41 crore has been kept for Udhampur district and all villages and hamlets of the district would be electrified upto 2009. He asked the people to cooperate with the government and strengthen the hands of Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Jugal Kishore said that development schemes have been taken in hand in a number of areas of Bhumagh which would go a long way in improving the living standards people of this far-flung area. He assured the people that the tehsil status would be granted to this area and the tehsil head quarter would be established at Sujandhar. He also assured that 10+2 class at High School Tote and 9th and 10th classes at Sujandhar would be started shortly.
Mr. Aijaz Ahmad Khan asked the Ranger of the area to formulate a plan for setting up of nurseries in the areas.
The school children presented a cultural programme at Kothru based on demands of the local area especially for road connectivity, upgradation of schools and related development works.
Local representatives put-forth various demands which include tehsil status, block headquarter, upgradation of High School Kothru as 10+2, road connectivity from Dubigali to Sair Suduan and power and drinking water facilities.
The Ministers assured that all their problems would be sorted in a phased manner.
Among others, Tehsildar Settlement Reasi, Mr. R. C. Tripati, officers of various departments, prominent citizens were also present on the occasion.
