'Village visit' programme conducted by SKUAST | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 12 : A team of scientists from agriculture and veterinary faculties of Sher-e-Kashmir university of Agril Sciences and Tech. visited village Agar Jeeto in Reasi district. The visit was conducted as part of the 'Village visit' programme of the university organized every fortnight. The visiting team organized an interaction meeting with the farmers of the village and discussed on a wide ranging issues pertaining to agriculture, animal husbandry and allied subjects. The scientist in general advised the farmers to adopt improved practices of cultivation for gaining higher profitability on a sustained basis. At the outset of the programme, the team coordinator, Nafees Ahmad, Assoc. Professor described at length the purpose and importance of the programme, started by the University to provide farmers of far-off villages on spot advisory on the issues of concurrent nature. Lekh Chand, Assoc. Professor enlightened the farmers about the improved and latest production practices of wheat and maize crops in order to increase the production and profitability. Farmers raised the problems of various weeds flora in the field crops especially- lantana, parthenium, ageratum (both yellow and blue) etc. The scientists also suggested proper selection of suitable crop varieties and technological practices that may suit the local agro-climatic and soil condition. Hafeez Ahmad and K Singh, scientists, plant protection suggested the farmers appropriate plant protection measures to safeguard their grain and vegetables crops against major insect pests and diseases. They also dwelt on control measures of rodents as well as termites which are causing great harm to crops. Deep Ji Bhatt, scientist, floriculture underlined the importance of growing marigold crops in the area and passed on the latest production technology of marigold. Utsav Sharma and Sudhir Kumar, scientists, veterinary sciences made the farmers aware abut the improved measures to increase the milk production from the milch animals. They laid emphasis on regular de-worming of animals and also advised to vaccinate the animals against various chronic diseases and ailments. On the occasion they gave a patient hearing to the problems in animals and appropriately suggested case based prescriptions. They also underlined the improved practices in breeding of animals and overall management practices for proper health and productivity. The team was highly thankful for the active cooperation of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Reasi for their active cooperation in organizing the programme successfully. |
