Cong again gets fundamentals wrong | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 12: Protest demonstration on denial of MLC ticket to Pandit Mangat Ram, party workers asking former deputy chief minister to resign from the party, ghearo of PCC president Saif-ud-din Soz and deep anguish and resentment in Cong leadership suggest one thing: Cong is hell bent on learing lessons hard way. The denial of ticket has the potential of chaning the political landscape of the State in immediate future. Mangat Ram Sharma was the most credible and known face of the party. He had been in the thick of the political for quite long time and had proven his record for not yielding to pressure of coalition partners. He had shown his mettle as deputy chief minister during chief ministerial tenure of Mufit Mohammad Sayeed. He had fight with Mufti on many issue, a fact acknowledged by Mufti also, and had even chaired a cabinet meeting in his absence. It was a rare feat for Jammu based leader who virtually acted as a CM though for small time. By making him as MLC there was every possibility that he could have been elevated to the post of deputy chief minister. It was this possibility which was not to the liking of National Conference. Mangat Ram has been supportive of Prof Saif-ud-din Soz who had already taking cudgels with the Omar Abdullah. NC didn't want anyone to challenge its superiority in the administration and had its way though with the help of its friends in Congress circles. Former chief minister, who always had a personal relations with the Abdullah family, did more than to help them by proving crucial in getting mandate for Jugal Kishore. The NC, which has already neutralized BJP leadership, will use the same tactics for the new MLC as it has been using with the other Cong leadership. The Cong did the same folly of denying tickets to potential candidates in both UP and Punjab and it did cost it dearely. It has repeated the same in J&K and it could further proved the party's fundamental wrong which Rahul Gandhi is trying to correct. |
