Restructure rural economy, bring MGNREGA under MW Act: Tarigami | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar13: Highlighting the significance of the rural development for restructuring the rural economy, the CPI (M) State Secretary and MLA, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami today urged the government to lay more emphasis on this vital sector in the planning process. Participating in the debate on Demands for Grants for the departments of Rural Development, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Tarigami affirmed that restructuring the rural economy was imperative for socio-economic emancipation of the masses in the state. He demanded to bring MGNREGA under the minimum wages act and said that without this provision the whole programme becomes unconstitutional as it is not in harmony with the provision of the constitution, which guarantees equal wages for equal work. Tarigami demanded increase in the wages under MGNREGA as well as doubling the work days from 100 to 200.Showing his great concern for the menace of corruption. He urged the govt to strengthen the State Accountability Commission and Vigilance Organization so that corruption. Tarigami advocated setting up of State Judicial Commission so that the doubts regarding corruption in the state judiciary could be set at rest and grievances addressed. Tarigami also called for constitutional empowerments of panchayats and sought regularization of daily wagers presently working in the Rural Development Department. He also demanded that the pending wages of these daily wagers should be released at the earliest possible. |
