Switchover to cultivation of aromatic, medicinal plants: Sham | 3 day training prog for farmers takes off | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 13: Minister for Health, Horticulture and floriculture Sham Lal Sharma on Tuesday inaugurated three day training programme organized by department of Floriculture to aware the farmers in modern techniques of cultivation of flower and medicinal plants. The Minister for Health, Horticulture and Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma was the Chief Guest at the inaugural function. The training programme has been organized by the department of floriculture, Jammu in collaboration with Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (CSIR) or rural prosperity through Aromatic plants at IIIM (CSIR) canal road, Jammu. Addressing the gathering, the Minister stressed for diversification in Agri sector and adoption cultivation of Aromatic and Medicinal plants which have tremendous commercial potential. He said farmers in the rain fed area can make good dividends with less labour . He said medicinal and aromatic plants are emerging as the new opportunities of entrepreneurship for farmers and have become resource for drugs Flavors and fragrances for Pharma and Aroma industries. He exhorted upon the farmers to take benefit of these medicinal plants which had been God gifted in Jammu and Kashmir state. As many as two hundred (200) progressive farmers from Jammu division, including Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban and Jammu Districts are going to participate in the training programme for attaining knowledge in the field of floriculture and horticulture. K.K Sharma, Director Floriculture Jammu, assured full co-operation and support to the farmers interested to adopt cultivation of Aromatic and medicinal plants and said that the department would make every effort to promote entrepreneurship in the field through panchayati raj institutions. Director Health Madhu Khullar, Director family welfare and RCH , Dr. T.K Moza, Satish Gupta , Drug controller Jammu, J. L Sharma Director horticulture, Dr. S Chandra Chief Scientist and Incharge farms and S. R.S Balli (Deputy Director Floriculture were also present on the occasion. |
