Curfew relaxed for 11 hrs in Rajouri | Slathia talks with 2 communities remain ‘fruitless’ | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 13: As the district administration today held series of meetings with the representatives of two communities in Rajouri for the restoration of peace to the area, the curfew was relaxed in the town for 11 hours. The curfew was first relaxed from 8 am to 6 pm but when this period passed off peacefully, relaxation of one more hour was given with its extension up to 7 pm. In a joint statement issued here in the evening, Rajouri's deputy commissioner and SSP said the situation was under control in the town. The statement said industries minister SS Slathia and minister of state for power, Shabir Ahmad Khan also held meetings with the two communities and appealed them to maintain peace and harmony in the area. Both the communities expressed their desire for the peace and harmony to return to the area and assured their full cooperation in this regard, the statement added. "Law and order situation in the district is normal," the statement said and added, "No untoward incident has taken place for the past 24 hours." Curfew was imposed in the town last week following minor clashes between two communities after some miscreants had stoned the peaceful Bhairav procession. Officials sources however said Slathia held series of talks with representative of two communities but these almost bore no fruits. He has returned to Jammu empty handed sources added. |
