Private school bus operators violating guidelines, students over-charged

Jammu, Mar 14: Despite clear guidelines and directives for the school busoperators from the state government there are open violations of the guidelinesby the school bus operators. Various school bus operators are openly overcharging the students and the numerous complaints to the authorities by the parents have not had any fruitful effect. According to SRO-309 issued by thestate transport authority which was also published in the newspapers a studentliving within one kilometer away from the school the monthly charge is fixed at Rs.18, for those living two kilomtres away it is Rs.35, for three kilometers Rs.53, for four kilometers Rs 70, for eight kilometers Rs.140. But the private schools are violating the above order and making extra moneyby charging the students far higher than those fixed by the government. Parent of a student, Mukesh Dutt resident of Gandhi Nagra, said that theyare not satisfied with the bus transport services provided by the school's private operators. He said the private bus operators are taking monthly charges of Rs. 600, which more much than those fixed by the government rate list.. He further said that he had many times complained to the school authorities tocheck the issued rate list by the government but school authorities are nottaking any action in this regard. He also said that he had sent writtencomplaints to the concerned transport authorities about the bus operators extra charges. The authoritiesare also not taking any step till date. "Despite the RTO rules for school buses, nobody cares to follow or implementthem. The busses and school authority continue to violate the state government order. Parents are continuously hold meetings with the school authorities. "We havemany times shown the order copy (rate list) but they are not ready to listen toour voice", said R.D.Sharma a parent. Transport commissioner S. M. Fazlullah could not be contacted even afterrepeating calls to reach him.
