Students simmer over yesterday's "cane charge' stage protest
VC pacifies two confronting sides

Jammu, Mar 14: Protesting against the yesterday's 'police action' in whicha Law student Talib Hussain and a girl Jasmeen from Urdu Department were beatenbadly, the students and scholars staged a massive protest in Jammu University.However the Vice Chancellor acting as interpreter pacified the two confrontingsides viz. Students and non teaching staff in a meeting held in campus today. Earlier large number students raising slogans against highhandedness of J&K Police and JU Authorities boycotted their classes andblocked road infront of JU for hours to show resentment over the yesterday' sissue when security personals go berserk and beating protesting students.
Recalling the yesterday's ugly episode one Talib Hussain,law student said, "I too fled from the place but SI Jasrotia caught hold of meand started beating me, I got unconscious and later was hospitalized.' Another eyewitness narrated the same story of 'policebrutality' and said, "When a girl students tried to save Talib Hussain, the copalso hit her which really is 'highly condemnable".
Besides Talib and the girl student, two more students namelySunil Sharma from Dogri Department and MS Bhatti from Political ScienceDepartment received some minor injuries during Tuesday's scuffle with cops.
The protesting students demanded Suspension of SI RakeshJasrotia and name of the official who made a phone call to Police. However after staging their marathon protest students enteredthe JU Campus and assembled in front of Central Library where VC Jammu came tomeet them and assured the students justice and the protesting students dispersed.
Meanwhile non teaching staff also observed strike and theexamination block remained closed till 12:00 o Clock due to which hundreds ofB.Ed and other students from the state and outside the state suffered.
