JAMMU, Mar 14: The sales tax department still had to plug many escape routes at the railway station here.
While all the trucks and other vehicles coming from outside the state were subjected to "thorough" checking at Lakhanpur, the railway station did not have any such system. Official sources said items worth lakhs were being brought by some people, including traders, from outside the state vias trains without paying sales tax but there was no official to check their belongings. There was an immediate need to plug all the escape routes for sales tax evaders in the railway station area here, the sources added. |
