Early Times Report
srinagar, Mar 14: The lawyer of deceased NC worker, Haji Muhammad Yusuf's family today visited the official residence of state chief minister, Omar Abdullah in Srinagar.
Following permission from the COI headed by Justice (Retired) H.S. Bedi, advocate Mushtaq Ahmad representing the family of Haji Yusuf visited the Gupkar Road residence of Omar Abdullah this afternoon.
"I could not gather any substantial information from the kin of late Haji Muhammad Yusuf about the topography inside the Chief Minister's residence which Haji Muhammad Yusuf had visited before his death.
"I have been inside the place today and familiarized myself with the topography of the place. This will help me in cross examination of the eye-witnesses who were present when Haji Muhammad Yusuf had been called to the Chief Minister's residence on September 29," the lawyer told media persons outside the Chief Minister's residence.
When the lawyer visited the CM's residence the media was not allowed to accompany him.
The lawyer had moved an application before the commission of inquiry seeking permission to visit the Chief Minister's residence, the headquarters of the state crime branch and the police hospital in Srinagar, three places Haji Yusuf had been to before he died in the custody of the crime branch here on September 30, 2011.
He had been handed over to the sleuths of the crime branch by the Chief Minister who called him to his residence on September 29, 2011 following allegations by two other NC workers before the Chief Minister that Haji Yusuf had received huge bribes from them promising one a legislator's job and the other a ministerial berth.
While the family alleged he had been tortured to death, an autopsy carried out on the body revealed Haji Yusuf had died of cardiac arrest.
Following allegations by the family and the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), the state government constituted a commission of inquiry in November last year headed by Justice (Retired) H.S. Bedi to probe the death.
