| Medico allegedly involved in stone pelting, appointed as DirSKIMS Soura: Faculty | | | Sumit Sharma
Jammu, Mar 14: Alleging misuse of power and authority, the faculty atSher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), stated that the selectingcommittee has misled the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who happens to be thechairman of governing body faculty of the same institute who appointed of theDoctor Showkat Ali Zargar as director SKIMS, as director of institute allegedlyinvolved in stone pelting and demanded probe.
Faculty alleged that Dr Showkat who was appointed asDirector SKIMS on 3 June 2011, besides having credit of bad track, even was involvedin the stone pelting. His involvement of stone pelting was surfaced when as pernotice No SO/SS/Index/11/71 dated 01/04/2011 CID special Branch of governmentof Jammu and Kashmirwrote to Joint Director Exims Soura to provide the full particulars includingname, residence, parentage, design, DOB of Dr Showkat Zargar, HoD Gastro SKIMS.
The documents in possession of Early Times revealed thatthere had been successive irregularities in selecting committee involving directappointment of Dr Showkat in the respective post of Director.
Through these documents the faculty of SKIMS Soura allegedthat Dr Showkat- an associate professor of Gastroenterology , was earlierexpelled on the approval of Governor vide order no 2263 dated 24/12/1993 on theallegations of his unauthorized absence and remained indulge in privatepractice, continued to get selected to the coveted post in brazen defiance ofthe norms.
In addition, they alleged selection committee whichcomprised of four members, only two members were present during selectionprocess. Moreover, various norms of recruitment for the post of director SKIMSwere floated in air to get him benefit, faculty alleged.
Pertinent to mention here that after his termination DrShowkat, was re-employed after he showed his interest on July 6,1998. He wasabsolved on the basis of recommendations of the then Health Minister, Dr MAMattoo, Vice Chairman Governing Body, SKIMS and then Director SKIMS. The doctorin question was re employed on the basis certain conditions. Presently the matter of the appointment ofdirector SKIMS is sub-judiced as , the doctors having stakes to be fit for thepost have filed court case. |
