Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 15 : Those connected with tourist trade and pilgrim tourism in Jammu and Kashmir have expressed deep resentment over the failure of the Railways Minister in fulfilling several pending demands of people this northern state.
A number of hoteliers, transporters and traders in Jammu, Katra and Srinagar said that they had expected introduction of new rail services between various states and Jammu and laying of double rail track between Jammu and Jalandhar would be proposed in the railways budget that the minister presented in the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
These hoteliers said that since over one crore pilgrims visit the holy shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi per year it was mandatory on the part of the central Government and the Railway Minister to propose additional facilities for the pilgrims. They said that pilgrims who wish to visit Mata Vaishno Devi and Amarnath cave have been facing ordeals because of delay in getting railway tickets.
This called for introduction of additional rail services between Jammu and other states. Introduction of new rail services between Jammu and various other states would mean reduction in the cooling period that the pilgrims face while booking their seats in the railways.
Others said that they have felt disappointed because the Railways Minister did not fulfill peoples' pending demand for setting up a coach factory in Jammu and Kashmir. They said that there was still time for members of the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha from Jammu and Kashmir to persuade the Railway Minister to incorporate provision for introduction of new rail services to Jammu. Unemployed youths have urged the state Government and the MPs from the state to plead with the centre for job reservations in the Railways for boys and girls from Jammu and Kashmir. Since the Railways has a plan for recruiting over 10 lakh youths special job quota be reserved for youths from Jammu and Kashmir.
