| Centre with holds UIDSSMT funds to Jammu and Kashmir | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 15 : With Jammu and Kashmir government "failing" to implement some critical urban reforms, the Centre has withheld instalments for the projects sanctioned under Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) in the state.
The NC-led government, however, said it was taking necessary steps to get the funds released.
"In the wake of non-implementation of some critical urban sector reforms in the state, the Union Ministry of Urban Development has withheld the release of second and final instalments for UIDSSMT projects," Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand told Legislative Assembly during question hour today. Replying to a question by legislator Charanjeet Singh, Chand said the Centre is being frequently updated on mandatory issues like utilisation certificates, independent review, monitoring agency and appraisal reports.
He said town-wise progress on each urban sector reform has been submitted to the Centre.
Chand said the works sanctioned under UIDSSMT scheme are being executed as per the agreement signed between Union Ministry of Urban Development and State Housing and Urban Development Department.
He pointed out that release of instalments is contingent upon implementation of the critical urban sector reforms relating to property tax, imposition of user charges and transfer of functions to the urban local bodies. |
