National capital or hub of break-India activities | "Azadi" For Kashmir | | Rustam
JAMMU, Mar 15: Pro-separatists have ganged up and intensified anti-India activities with a view to putting pressure on New Delhi so that it grants "Azadi" to Kashmir. The worst aspect of the whole situation is that even those holding constitutional positions have joined the break-India crusade. The case in point is the unstinted support extended to Kashmiri separatists by none other than National Minority Commission Chairman Wajahat Habibullah, a retired IAS officer of Jammu and Kashmir cadre. It happened only this Monday in New Delhi. On Monday, the well-known pro-separatist journalist Seema Mustafa, who runs the Centre for Policy Analysis (CPA), organized a convention on "Democratic Rights of Kashmiri Youths". Habibullah was one of the main speakers. Addressing the convention, which was attended by many Kashmiri students, Habibullah said "there is nothing wrong with the usage of word 'Azadi' (freedom)" and shamelessly asserted that the "Indian Constitution guarantees it for every citizen of the country". "I object to those who take objections to the use of word 'Azadi'. Freedom is the fundamental right of every citizen, guaranteed to us by none other but the Constitution of India…Kashmir is passing through a state of stress. But there is also a window of opportunity which should be used for seeking redressal of problems…The people of the valley are demanding greater democracy as part of a movement which is taking India ahead of the world. If you demand greater democracy, you are not demanding anything anti-national. You are demanding to be part of a movement which is taking India ahead of the whole world and India can be proud of its citizens…People of Kashmir could not enjoy their basic rights due to 20 years of violence. Unfortunately, Jammu and Kashmir is not enjoying that (basic rights). There is a history of it why it has not happened that. We had 20 years of violence. We had the international conspiracy and all this," he, inter-alia, said while addressing the convention. Prominent, among others, who also addressed the convention, included CPI MP D Raja, Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) leader Sanjay Saraf, CPI-M MP M V Rajesh and CPI-M MLA from Kulgam M Y Tarigami. Civil Rights activist and member of Team Anna Prashant Bhushan also addressed the convention of protagonists of Kashmir's "Azadi". He, like the Kashmiri students, accused the Government of India of giving "total immunity to the armed forces by keeping in force the AFSPA" and said that the "human rights violations in Kashmir have increased as a result of this immunity" and demanded withdrawal of AFSPA and PSA. Fully endorsing this demand Wajahat said that the "PSA is not needed anymore" and asked "When TADA and POTA had been abolished, why continue with the PSA?" As for Kashmiri students, most of them said that they would not accept anything short of right to self-determination. "Nothing short of right to self-determination will satisfy them," they said. A couple few students said "AFSPA and PSA are not the core issues. The core issue is the "right to self-determination". "The Government must the address the core issue of Kashmir which needs a political solution," they said. What is all this going on in Delhi and that too under the nose of the authorities charged with the responsibility of defending the unity and integrity of the country? It is not for the first time that an anti-India event was organised in Delhi. The pro-separatists have been holding and organising such events for quite sometime now and going scot-free. It appears there are elements in the establishment who have been encouraging such events to keep the pot boiling in Kashmir. This is not statecraft; this is political debauchery. |
