Flyover yet a 'dream reality,' as red tapism may delay project

Jammu, Mar 15: After unprecedented delays and bureaucratic hurdles, the processof constructing the flyover in Jammu to end the long traffic jams has finallybegun but it still is being looked as a 'dream reality.'
Official sources said that with government giving greensignal to start work on them, administration has started the groundwork.
It is pertinent to mention here that the flyovers are to beconstructed from Kanjuwani to Marble market, Satwari to Bikram Chowk and BCroad to Amphalla and road widening is also been approved for other roads in thecity.
However, sources said that slow planning may mar theseprojects as officials have failed to provide detailed report to theadministration.
"The government has also planned in the mega project aimed atdecongesting and providing better road connectivity of the city. With thelaunching of the project, people are expected that the prestigious4-laneBye-Pass Project would be pushed ahead with full force to minimize trafficjams, sources added.
Divisional Commissioner, Pawan Kotwal stated that the roadwidening work will start soon on Bikram Chowk and as far as flyover isconsidered administration is starting the groundwork. He further added that Kanjuwani and BC roadfiles under processed after road widening we will start as soon as possible.
As per official statistics the nightmares of traffic policeand other traffic regulating agencies in the state will further continue as Jammuand Kashmir Transport Department has registered 36,238fresh vehicles tillending September last year besides the issuingnearly 45,318 driving licenses which include 2,452commercial and 42,866 noncommercial across the state.
This will further be burdened with addition of huge fleet tothe already over burdened roads, the official records suggest that out of thetotal vehicles registered this year 23,935 were for Jammu division and12,203for Kashmir valley.
Sources said that though the government has realized revenueof Rs 63.36 crore through Transport Department during the current financialyear in the shape of taxes and fee from transporters, but the affect on theroads with addition of these vehicles will be pose unwanted congestion incoming months.
