Yet to see end of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir: Army Chief

Jammu, Mar 16 : Army today asked its troops not to become complacent in Jammu and Kashmir, which is yet to see an "end to terrorism", even though there was decline in infiltration along the Indo-Pak border. "The troops should not become complacent as we are yet to see the end of terrorism in J-K," Army Chief Gen V K Singh said in a security meeting at Nagrota based 16 Corps headquarters. There was a need to remain vigilant and prepared at all times, Singh said. Singh, who arrived on a day-long visit to Jammu, was briefed on the prevailing security situation South of Pir Panjal Ranges in J-K. In a special 'sainik sammelan' held on the occasion, Singh addressed the officers and men of the White Knight Corps and outlined the priority areas of the Indian Army. The General also spoke about the steps being taken towards transformation of the Army to make it operationally and logistically more efficient. The process for removal of anomalies in the 6th Pay Commission has also been initiated, Singh said and underlined the need for all ranks of the Army to maintain high moral values and to live by the principles which are traditionally identified with the Army. Earlier in the morning, Gen Singh accompanied by Lt Gen D S Thakur, Director General of Military Intelligence was received by Maj Gen Surinder Singh, General Officer Commanding of Tiger Division, Maj Gen B K Dhingra MGGS Northern Command and Group Captain Manish Girdhar, Officiating AOC, Air Force Station Jammu at Air Force Technical Area at Jammu Air Field. After meeting senior Army and Air Force Officers, the Army Chief accompanied by GOC Tiger Division and MGGS Northern Command proceeded to Nagrota based 16 Corps headquarters. On arrival at Nagrota, General Singh was received by Lieutenant General K T Parnaik, GOC-in-C Northern Command and Lieutenant General A S Nandal, GOC White Knight Corps. The Army Chief returned to New Delhi in the afternoon.
