Saffron growers of Kishtwar ridicule Agriculture Minister's statement | | | Early Times Report
Kishtwar, Mar 16: A meeting of saffron growers of district. Kishtwar was held at Pochhal wherein it was held that Minister of Agriculture, J&K State Ghulam Hussain Mir has been making the mockery of the Ministerial Affairs by way of tall claiming in respect of Saffron Cultivation in the State. However, the public of the State is made foolish that referring disparity in press statements of Minister for Agriculture J&K State in Daily News papers on 10-08-2011 and 13-03-2012, indicating that 300 hctrs. of land in District Kishtwar has been brought into Saffron Cultivation but at the same time, 120 hctrs of land has been shown to be brought under saffron cultivation in District Kishtwar in other dailies which is nonetheless, indoor manipulation of papers in the Ministry. They accused that the Minister is running the affairs on predictions and projections of the records, rather than on factual position. They said that that nothing has been done so far on ground in respect of Saffron cultivation under National Mission on Saffron-Economical Revival under Rashtriya Krishi Vigyan Yojna. They said that not even a single penny has been spent in District Kishtwar, while the Minister for Agriculture has paid Rs. 25600/- per family in Kashmir Valley. They said that no employee from the concern department have ever approached to any farmer pertaining to the rejuvenation of saffron cultivation or for their technical guidance. They urged upon the State Govt. to avoid befooling the public of the state in general and Kishtwar in particular and adopt multi faceted techniques so that the use of the national mission meant for development of saffron in the state in order to multifold the productivity of this particular cash crop could be achieved. It is worthwhile to mention that the quality of saffron in district Kishtwar is considered as more qualitative in nature then that of saffron grown in other parts of the state, but the irony lies that even after tall claims of the Govt. of J&K, there is no strategic marketing of the saffron and the govt. all the times ignores the potential for harness of this cash crop in this part of the State. |
