Unemployed youth against increase in retirement age | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
SRINAGAR, Mar 16: Unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir have warned the government of taking any decision to increase retirement age of employees in the state. A group of highly qualified unemployed youth who approached KNS today apprehended that government's decision to enhance the retirement age could have serious consequences on their future. "If on an average one employee gets Rs 20000 salary, when he retires two unemployed youth can be engaged on that salary. But when government says they will increase the retirement age, they mar the career of lakhs of unemployed youth," said, Bilal Ahmad, a masters degree holder in Economics. The unemployed youth apprehend that if retirement age bar is increased, it will close their chances to get employment. "The decision might be beneficial for hundreds of employees for time being, but it will mar the career of thousands of unemployed youth as there chance of getting the job will end," they added. An unemployed youth who wished not to be named alleged that thousands of youth have been forced to take drugs by the government as they have no option to earn their livelihood. Meanwhile, Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar told that there was no proposal to increase the retirement age of the employees with the government as of now. "Employee leaders had submitted a memorandum to the Cabinet Sub Committee in which they had demanded the enhancement in retirement age. But as of now government has taken no decision on it," Sagar said.
