Seven members of marriage party killed, 29 injured
JAMMU JAN-22- Seven members of a marriage party were killed on spot and 29 others suffered injuries when a truck in which they were traveling rolled down on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway while two others got killed and several others received injuries in separate road accidents across Jammu during the last 24 hours.
According to reports a truck under registration NO JK02U-9825 on its way from Ramban to Katra rolled down in a deep nallah near Samrole,Udhampur, resulting on the spot death of seven members of a marriage party and injuries to over two-dozen others.
Those killed have been identified as Pawan Singh, Sansar Singh, Tulsi Ram, Wali Mohammed, Sita Ram and Ganga Ram while one body has not been identified so far.
Immediately after hearing about the tragic road mishap the local police and the inhabitants of the area rushed to the spot and evacuated the dead and the injured. All the injured have been rushed to hospital for treatment. The reason behind the accident is reported to be failure of the driver to negotiate a turn, which resulted into rolling down of the truck.
In the meanwhile, a Police spokesman said that two persons died and seven others suffered injuries in separate road accidents across Jammu. Those killed have been identified as Balbir Singh son of Kala Ram who was hit and injured by a truck at Mishriwala succumbed to his injuries. Kuldeep Singh driver of a tipper also lost his life when his vehicle skidded of the road at Manglian in Udhampur district while a road accident victim identified as Prabhat son of Dina Nath of Panjthirthi, who was hit by a Matador near Batra Hospital and admitted in the hospital, succumbed to his injuries today.
The spokesman said seven others also sustained injuries in different road accidents, while a body of a boy identified as Rakesh Kumar son of Dina Nath of Ratnu Chak Sanik Colony, who had drowned in Ravi Tawi Canal near Sainik Colony was fished out from the canal and brought to GMC hospital here for postmortem.
