Jammu woes pinch Mahbooba | | |
Jammu, March 16: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Chief, Mahbooba Mufti accused the government of failure to provide basic civic amenities to the people. She addressed a series of public meetings today at Top Sherkhaniana, Talab Khatikan and Pucca Danga.
Mahbooba rued that residents of Jammu city were struggling to get basic amenities like drinking water, drainage and power. She ascribed the reasons to casual approach of the government. “On the one hand government has hiked charges of water and electricity while on the other residents have been struggling to get potable water and power”, she pointed out and added that during the last three years not even a single step has been taken to mitigate woes of the people. “Miseries of the residents of Jammu city have been increasing with every passing day but the government is apathetic towards solving the problems”, she regretted.
Mahbooba made a mention of tangible measures taken to solve the problems during Mufti Sayed’s regime. “To cope up with the problem of the scarcity of drinking water especially during summer, a plan funded by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was implemented in Jammu city”, she reminded.
The PDP Chief said a number of new tube wells were dug besides construction of 5.4 MGD filtration plant at Sitli to solve problems of scarcity of water in city.
Expressing her concern over deplorable drainage condition in Jammu city, she recalled that during the regime of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, ADB funded Solid Waste Management and Drainage Scheme under ERA for Jammu Municipal Corporation was approved to solve this problem.
While responding to the demands raised by residents of Talab Khatikan, she demanded construction of community hall in the locality. Furthermore she also demanded parking slots for the residents.
Mahbooba was accorded rousing reception by the people at all the places. General Secretary of party Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin, Shanti Devi, R K Bali, Deepinder Kour, Puneet Jamwal, Rafiq Malik, Indu Anand, Mubarish Khan, Susheela Jamwal and others also spoke in these meetings.
