KPs warn against sabotaging passage of Shrines Bill | | | JAMMU, Mar 16: Alleging that some forces are hell bent to sabotage the passage of Kashmiri Hindu Shrines Management and Protection Bill, various Pandit bodies today took the serious exception to the statement of Sadhu Dharam Sathan Surakshani Samiti in this regard. Terming the statement of Samiti totally unfortunate, the leaders of various KP organizations urged the Sadhu Samaj to refrain from making any such statement as religious gurus Sadhus are taken into high esteem and highly respected by the entire Hindu community. Their indulgence and interference in the affairs of Shrines Bill will send a wrong signal among the Hindu Samaj. President Kashmiri Pandit Conference (KPC) while reacting to the statement said that Pandits take Sadhu samaj in high esteem and they still don’t believe the statement as it is Sadhu Samaj which has from times immemorial contributed for uplifting of dharma and taken a lead in challenging those who tried to denigrate religion and Hindu Samaj.
Kashmiri said that it is quit unbelievable that the statement has come from Sadhu Samaj itself that Kashmiri Pandits have left the Valley after selling their property as well as the temples. Such a statement is not only bereft of facts but insulting to a community which has sacrificed everything for upholding dharma. The entire Sadhu Samaj is fully aware of situation and circumstances that led to mass exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Valley in 1989-90 when militancy engulfed the Valley. He said the government at that time had totally surrendered and then Chief Minister, Dr Farooq Abdullah resigned in protest on the appointment of Jagmohan as the Governor of the state. The large scale selective killings of the community members by the militants having full backing of majority community has created feeling of total insecurity among the minorities in the Valley and the warning given to non Muslims to quit the Valley had left the community with no option but to migrate to Jammu and other parts of the country for their safety. But this does not mean that the community will give up its claim on the land of Kashmir or their religious places.
Kashmiri said that Sadhu Samaj which has made such remarks against the community must remember that the Pandits have made a lot of contribution towards Indian culture and intellectuals believe that Kashmir’s contribution to Indian ethos and culture are much more than any other state of country. By leveling false and baseless allegations against a community which is demanding passage of shrines and religious places bill for their management and upkeep Sadhu Samaj has unnecessarily tried to be fish in troubled waters on the behest of some vested interests, he added. Expressing his surprise over the statement convener J&K Roots in Kashmir Veer Saraf said that KPs have nothing to do with the temples or religious places governed by the Sadhu Samaj in Kashmir. Allaying the fears of Samaj he said KPs are demanding the passage of religious places and shrines Bill for Valley and not for the entire state. Moreover they have no objection in case the temples lying under the management of Sadhu Samaj are not included in the Bill. But besides that there are hundreds of such temples in Kashmir Valley which were managed by the community itself and no member of community is involved in disposing of their property.
To name a few such temples the famous shrines of Chakreshwar, Gupt Ganga, Nagbal Anantnag, Tirath Raj Lok Bhawan, Karkoot Nag, kheer Bhawani Manzgam, Kheer Bhawani Raithan Badgam, Abhinav Gupt Gufa, Beerawa, Amarnath Shrine Thajiwara, Mahadev, Harishwar Khunmoh, Baladevi, Tripursundri Khanbaran Devsar, Chandika Sagam, Kheer Bhawani, Ranipora, Uma Nagri Brari Angan, Shiva Devi Akingam, Gosani Gund, Dooru, Achdar Khiram, Mirza Kak Hangalgund, Trisandhiya, Wailoo, Lidar Sandiya and Pawan Sandiya Veerinag, Vitasta Veerinag, Devraj Nunar, Roop Bhawani Laar and Manigam Ganderbal, Roop Bhawani Chasha Shahi, Jeevan Sahib Ladhoo, Ganeshbal, Ganiwan Kangan, Harmukat Ganga, Sharda Bandipora, Mangla Devi, Monghama, Chandika Kurigam Qazigund, Sita Kund, Sangran, Durga Nag, Srinagar, Shailputri Baramulla, Kaniwan, Baramulla, Gosainteng Baramulla, Lokripura Kheer Bhawani, Bijebehara temple, Sun temple Mattan, Kheer Bhawani Tikar, Baderkali Handwara, Venkura, Gofbal Chanam Baramulla and Kapal Mochan , Shopian are a few shrines to name. Besides there are hundreds of small temples in villages which were inhibited by the Hindus, said Mr Saraf. He said in addion to it there are many ashrams of saints and sages like Swami Ramji Ashram, Swami Vidyadhar Ashram etc in Valley.
The constitution of Shrine Board will pave a way for their proper management and upkeep, said Saraf, adding the Samaj should have no objection if the law is enacted for their protection. Saraf said when the Sadhu Samaj had no objection in formation of shrine board for Mata Vaishno Devi and Swami Amarnath Ji it should also have no objection in formation of board for Hindu shrines in Kashmir.
