VHP calls for Jammu bandh, BJP extends its support
3/17/2012 12:20:14 PM

Jammu, Mar 16: Vishav Hindu Parishad today has given a call for Jammu Bandh tomorrow in support of people in Rajouri and against police action in which several persons were injured. Meanwhile the Bhartiya Janata Party and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Front have also extended support to the bandh call.

Giving a bandh call VHP president Ramakant Dubey told reporters at a press conference here that Jammu Province will observe complete shutdown tomorrow in protest against Rajouri incident.

VHP leader Dubey said that the district administration has failed in protecting the people of the minority community. He said that we condemn the attack on ‘Bhairon’ procession on the eve of Holi by some miscreants.

“On March 16, due to the mishandling of the situation by the administration and the police personnel, the clashes erupted and curfew in the town was re-imposed, he said expressing concerns over the issue.

The local administration must take action against the miscreants as warrants under law and against the culprits, who are bent upon to pollute the communal harmony of the civil society, he added.

Dubey asked the Home Minister of India to take serious note of the situation in the Border belt, so that the migration of the people of minority community can be protected.

Others who were present in the press conference included Dr Shyam Lal Gupta, General Secretary VHP, Dr V.K. Gupta President Jammu Mahanagar, Dinesh Khanna and Subash Gupta.

Meanwhile the Bhartiya Janata Party and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Front have also extended support to the bandh call. Expressing solidarity with the victims of Rajouri incidents, BJP State president Shamsher Singh Manhas, condemned the high handedness by the district administration in dealing with peaceful protesters who were demanding the arrest of stone pelters who had disrupted “Bharav Jhanki” procession on the eve of Holi.

Appealing to people from all walks of life, including transporters, business, shopkeeper and educational institutions to co-operate in making the Jammu bandh a success so that a clear message goes to the NC-Congress coalition that the minorities in border district cannot be taken for granted.
