Poonch people allege loot by traders | Who benefits from LoC trade? | | Salil Raina Poonch, Mar 17: Who benefits from Trans LoC trade? The question has been haunting the commoner in the state. They believe that the much hyped trade is benefiting a few people. According to reports, fruits, vegetables, pulses etc are being sent to Pakistan occupied Kashmir at prices much lower than wholesale prices at Jammu. On the contrary, the prices of different commodities available at Poonch including imported items from POK are quite far from the reach of common man. The shopkeepers in District Poonch are their own masters with nobody to do the necessary checking, reports said. The rate lists displayed by shopkeepers are issued by Beopar Mandal President or Vice President and concerned Secretary of that association. They hike the prices at will, reports said. The locals have demanded stern action against what they called `mafia'. Urging tangible measures from the district administration, the locals expressed dismay over the state of affairs. "There is no check on the market. The people are looted by the shopkeepers as the administration watches helplessly", said Gurcharan Singh, a Teacher by profession. The LoC trade has disappointed Sheetal Sharma. "When Poonch Rawalakote Trade was started, we were happy and hopeful that we would get commodities on lesser rates but we got nothing from this trade. Now we think its name should be Punjab Rawalakote trade because the imported commodities are being sent to Jammu, Punjab, Delhi and other areas. We do not get anything from this trade." |
