Sham for collective efforts to eradicate social evils from society | Madan calls for promoting secularism, communal harmony | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 18 : Minister for Health, Horticulture & Floriculture, Sham Lal Sharma has called for collective efforts to eradicate the social evils from the society, adding that only Government efforts are not sufficient, but entire society has to contribute for this noble cause. Speaking at a one-day symposium organized by a social organization "Mandli Mittren Di" on the theme of 'saving and protecting the girl child for better tomorrow' at Parade Ground, here today, the Minister said that moral education is must to promote the old and rich ethos of our society which were world famous. He said need of the hour is to involve social and religious organizations to promote the moral values and rich composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir to make the society more tolerable and sustainable. He said during the past some years the western culture and new curriculum of education has influenced the younger generation towards their specific goals and they are moving away from their roots and culture, which is not good for the society as well as nation. "We have to make collective efforts to keep our generation connected with our culture and languages for their better tomorrow and to keep their identity intact", he added. MP Madan Lal Sharma congratulated the organizers for bringing people of different walks of life on the one platform. He highlighted the objective of the organization and said that such events promote the communal harmony, mutual brotherhood and strengthen the secularism and culture. He said need of the hour is to make collective efforts for the development of mankind and uplifting the weaker sections to make the society prosper. He said that this is a non-political organization and people of every party and sections sit together and share their views for the betterment of the society and promoting the cultural and human values. He stressed the need for strengthening its wings at the district/tehsil level. Regarding the issue of SSB volunteers, the Member Parliament informed that with the serious efforts, the Central Government has agreed to consider the demand of the volunteers sympathetically and shortly a decision will be announced. He highlighted their contribution for the State and hoped that ultimately they will get their dues.
