Services of J&K Paryavaran Sanstha recalled | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 18: While celebrating the Silver Jubilee Year of J&K Paryavaran (Environment) Sanstha the president Maj Gen Goverdhan Singh Jamwal recalled the services rendered by the Sanatha during the last 25 years since June 1986 and the events organized during the Silver Jubilee year which includes symposium on problems of Jammu including environment held at Amar Mahal in Dec 2010, Ecological Meeting at IIIM in Jan 2011, Workshop of Western Himalayas organized by NIH in Mar 2011 with emphasis on 'Shivaliks and the Climate Change'. Visit of Ram Vishwakarma, Director and Scientists of IIIM and DC Jammu Sanjeev Verma with his staff to Water Shed Project Badhori and Phalsa Plantation at Suchani in Jun 2011 and another visit to Kulwanta, Thesil Ramnagar, Udhampur District in Dec 2011 to start income generating activities through Herbal Plantation. The President informed the members, as decided in the AGM last year a memorandum highlighting the problems of Shivaliks was handed over to interlocutors and the president also brought out the Water problem in Jammu region in the final coordination meeting of the interlocutors with Taj-Mohi-Ud-Din, minister for Irrigation as Chief Guest. In the Meeting it was stressed that 5 Tributaries of River Ravi i.e. Ujh, Tarnah, Bein, Basanter and Devak do not fall in the Indus Water Treaty and yet no efforts have been made to harness their water for the Shivaliks where Herbal Plantation can provide Income Generation Activities as ready market of over 1 crore pilgrims tourists is available. |
