Early Times Report
Srinagar, Mar 18 : State Government has sent a recommendation to the Central Government to increase the wages of SPOs from Rs 3000 to Rs 5000 monthly, sources told KNS.
More than 25000 SPOs working in the police department have been demanding increase in their wages as they say that they give duty like the regular policemen. "But we are being paid peanuts in return. We are not able to feed our families with this meager amount," a group of PSOs wishing anonymity told .
Last time the wages of SPOs were hiked from Rs 1500 to Rs 3000 in 2007 when Ghulam Nabi Azad was the Chief Minister.
When contacted Minister of State for Home, Nasir Aslam Wani confirmed to KNS that they have sent recommendations to the centre for the hike in the wages of SPOs.
"We have taken up the issue with the center and as soon we get approval the wages would be increased. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and DGP, Kuldeep Khoda are taking keen interest that the genuine demands of SPOs are fulfilled," he added.
