Omar believes Salman Rushdie doesn't know him | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Mar 18: J&K Chief minister Omar Abdullah, who skipped India Today conclave attended by Salman Rushdie, seriously believes that famous writer Salman Rushdie doesn't even know that he (Omar ) even exists. In a recent post on twitter, Omar had posted "Plus Salman Rushdie doesn't even know I exist so do you really think he gives a toss whether I was there or not? Get real." Interestingly, his father Dr Faooq Abdullah and hardline separatist leader Sayeed Ali Shah Geelani had attended the same conclave last year. It's a tweet by the Chief Minister of J&K- which in on the watch list of the every important nation of the world including US, Iran, Europe and Middle East. The CM of J&K is not only being watched closely but reports from here figure prominently and importantly in all international news papers and news agencies. Not only that Salman Rushdie, was brought up in India, had been visiting here regularly and is in knowledge of all the important persons including Omar Abdullah and also Dr Farooq Abdullah. Only naive would believe this post of Omar Abdullah that writer who has been in controversy, will not be knowing the chief minister of the only Muslim majority State which always had Muslim CM since independence. Omar by this tweet is trying to give an impression that his skipping the conclave doesn't make much difference. However, the serious reason which he didn't mention was that his skipping the conclave was for political reason. Just before the elections in four states, which Congress lost miserably, the Cong government in Rajasthan had banned the visit of Salman Rushdie at the Jodhpur Literary Festival held in Jan. Even his address by the video-link was also cancelled. Omar by skipping the conclave had tried to give an impression that he doesn't want to share dias with some one whose writing is perceived as anti-Muslim and with the same reason he doesn't want to hurt his political ground. But interestingly for not attending the conclave he has tried to take refuge in some actions by right wing Hindu organisation. In another tweet the had posted that he (Omar) doesn't need lecture on free speech from the people who chased out MF Hussain using a paint brush. But the point he is skipping is that protest against cancellation of Rushdie's visit was not made by the right-wing Hindu organisation but the so-called liberal and 'secular' writers and the video-link of Rushdie was supposed to be telecasted by a 'liberal and secular' TV Channel with whom Omar Abdullah shares personal equation. |
