| Mehbooba now worries for Srinagar | | NC compromised on autonomy, natural resources | | early times report
Srinagar, Mar 18: After getting hurt at the woes of Jammu people, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mahbooba Mufti today expressed sympathies with the residents of Srinagar. The PDP leader today visited some areas in Khanyar constituency. Mahbooba said the National Conference (NC) had exploited the people of state emotionally and economically. "While most of the state has freed itself of that party's negative influence Srinagar continues to be its victim and is bearing the brunt of its exploitative methods", she said. Expressing concern at the lack of civic amenities in the areas that she visited on foot, Mahbooba said the NC which had been representing the city for the last 40 years had taken the people of Srinagar for granted. "The people have been kept deliberately preoccupied with issues that have brought only destruction to this historic city and the miseries to its residents", she said.
Mahbooba said Srinagar city had stopped to grow under the NC which is in power only because Srinagar and Ganderbal give it ten MLAs in the present Assembly. "They are promoting the interests of their cronies through illegal contracts and other benefits, JKCA Scam being the latest one. She said NC ruled Srinagar Municipal Corpor-ation for five years but only added to its problems of drainage, sewerage and hygiene." The towns outside Srinagar, according to Mahbooba have grown beyond recognition but Srinagar is denied its share. "Srinagar is still at a stage of development where even a black topping of a patch of road is projected by the government as a big favour to the place", she said. "Honest implementation of various schemes could have developed Srinagar into one of the finest urban centres of the country, but the filth, dog menace, broken roads, lack of lighting and drainage make it a source of embarrassment for every body as this city is visited by thousands of tourists from all over the world", she said. Accusing the NC of disturbing mutual harmony, she said the Abdullah family and their cohort's aligned with every body in Delhi whenever it suited them. "They were part of the BJP led NDA, shared power with the 3rd front and are now ruling the state with the help of congress. They have seized to represent the people of Jammu & Kashmir and survive in power just because they have battered away the interests of the state", she said. Mahbboba said the NC compromised on everything be it autonomous character of the state, its natural resources like water and power or institutions like the JK Bank. "NC gave away everything to promote the interests of its leaders and their families", she said.
Assuring youth to fight for their civil liberties, Mahbooba said NC was reduced to a power broker. "They run the city like a mafia", she accused.
PDP president sought the support of people to fight mis-governance and corruption of the present government. She was accompanied by party Spokes person Naeem Akhter, District Organising secretary Mudasir Khan, Zone president Showkat Hafiz and Sheikh Firdous Ahmed, and Jahangir wani she went to the interiors of Syedpora, Shuhampora, Tujgari Mohalla and Makhdoom Sahib Mohalla. She also paid obescience at the shrines of Naqashbandh Sahib (RA) , Syed Sahib (RA) and Makhdoom Sahib (RA). |
