JKTDC's luxurious huts: 66 occupied by VVIPs, police officers; 1 for tourists

JAMMU, Mar 19: Out of 67 huts available with JKTDC at Cheshmashai and Pari Mahal in Srinagar district, 46 have been occupied by estates department, 19 by home department and just one has been kept vacant for on-line reservation of tourists.
This was stated by Minister for Tourism Nawang Rigzin Jora while replying to a question of PDP MLC Mohammed Asharaf Mir in the Upper house today. PDP MLC Murtaza Khan asked the question on behalf of Mir. In reply, Jora said that huts are being used for accommodation of various senior officers of the government. He said the department has generated of revenue of Rs. 1128.45 lakh from 2008-09 up to January 2012.
While replying to another question, Minister for Finance Abdul Rahim Rather said that one post of Assistant Director and one post of District Information Officer, Leh is vacant following promotion of Tsering Wangchuk as General Manager and retirement of Ahsan Ali adding that no post of Assistant Information Officer in District Information Centre Leh is vacant.
He said that Tsering Wangchuk is still holding the charge of both assignments viz Assistant Director Information and District Information Officer Leh in addition to his own duties. Admitting that thousands of candidates have applied for Class-IV vacancies in various departments in Pulwama District, the Minister while replying to another question by Bashir Ahmed Magray said that though selection process is continuing.
Sheikh Ghulam Rasool, Jehangir Hussain Mir, Syed Rafiq Shah, Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy asked their supplementaries and put certain suggestions in this regard. Observing the importance of the question Chairman Legislative Assembly Amrit Malhotra directed the government to take care of the suggestions of the members.
Minister for Forests Mian Altaf informed the House that department of Social Forestry was created to give thrust to Agro-Forestry and development of medicinal plants on commercial lines under Joint Forest Management Programme in the State. Minister was replying to a question by B.R. Kundal. He said 1.62 lakh hectares of area has been brought under plantation by Social Forestry since its inception.
He said that the department has generated revenue of Rs. 25 lakhs during 2010-11, which has reached to Rs. 60 lakhs during 2011-12 and is expected to touch Rs. one crore during next financial year. Minister said that the department is also planting fast growing species meeting about 60% of timber requirement in Kashmir Valley and has reduced 60% pressure on natural forests out of farm Forestry component under which plants were supplied to the farmers initially free of cost and subsequently on nominal cost.
The Minister said that Farm-Agro forestry is generating annually approximately Rs 800 crores of indigenous business (fruit boxes, plywood industry, fuel, firewood etc) both in Kashmir Valley and Jammu Region. He said Non-tangible benefits are beyond quantification as Social Forestry Plantation controls carbon emission by carbon fixation which has definite impact on control of global warming and climate change.
Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla said that erstwhile district Doda was affected by the recent heavy snowfall and damage caused have been got assessed. He was replying to a question by Khalid Najeeb Suharwardy. He said as per reports five persons have been died and four injured while 99 buildings fully damaged and 187 partially. He said 348 cattle, sheep and goat has also been killed by this snowfall.
Minister of State for PHE, Nasir Aslam Wani informed the House that 3 centrally sponsored (CS) schemes viz ARWSP/NRDWP, JNNURM, UIDSSMT, are operational for providing safe drinking water to the people residing in Rural and Urban areas of the state.
The Minister was replying to a question by Naresh Kumar Gupta. He said the payment is being made to the contractors through cheques, adding that the payment is also being made directly to the Labour engaged and in some time through Labour mates.
Nasir said that total 214 water tankers, 163 belonging to PHE department and 51 of private agencies, have been engaged for providing drinking water facilities to the people.
Replying to another question by Subhas Chander Gupta, Nasir informed the house that for developing of drinking water sources in Kathua district Rs 2.72 crore have been spent during 2008-09, Rs. 1.81 crore during 2009-10 and Rs. 2.54 crore during 2010-11 under MNP scheme .
Similarly Rs. 22. 87 crore have also been spent during 2009-10, Rs. 20.77 crore during 2010-11 for developing of drinking water sources under ARWSP, in the district ,he added.
