Air travels costing state's economy | BJP-Panthers- BSP asks govt to take austerity measures | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 19: Senior leaders of the BJP, Panthers Party and the BSP have urged the state Government to either sell its fleet of three air crafts and helicopters or reduce their number to one in order to reduce the burden on the exchequer. Panthers Party leader, Harsh Dev Singh, said that it was ironical that a state that has no resources for building new power plants has the dared to go for spending 5.2 Crore dollars on the purchase and maintenance of three aircrafts and helicopters during the last 10 years. He and senior BJP leader, Ashok Khajuria underlined that as far as fuel expenses on these aircrafts and helicopters are concerned maximum amount is being spent on the tours and trips of Chief Minister and his ministerial colleagues. Panthers leader Harsh Dev Singh pin pointed that since the state of Jammu and Kashmir was prone to weather related problems and disasters the Government could retain one helicopter which can be pressed into service during emergencies. Singh wanted the Minister for Finance, Abdul Rahim Rather to impose blanket ban on the use of helicopters for carrying ministers and senior bureaucrats from Srinagar to Jammu or from Jammu to Delhi and vice versa. Meanwhile Ashok Khajuria said if the state Government owned aircraft and helicopters were sold the Government could easily utilise the money, spent on these aircrafts, on constructing new power projects or other public welfare projects in state. He said in case of emergencies the state Government could requisition helicopters from the Indian Air force for which the Government could make payment. The BSP leaders blamed the Chief Minister, Ministers and senior bureaucrats for throwing to winds austerity measures dished out by the Finance Minister. They said in case the Chief Minister, his ministerial colleagues and top bureaucrats observed austerity measures here would be no problem for the Government in implementing the 6th pay commission recommendations in toto and carry out development activities in the sectors of health and education. |
