Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 19: In a meeting of representatives of various KP organizations conveyed by Pren Nath Bhat Memorial Trust here, held under the chairmanship of an eminent Kashmiri Pandit scholar Prof K N Pandita, former head of the department for South Asian studies in Kashmir University, rubbished the claim of so called Sadhu Dharam Sathan Sarakhashani Samiti ((SDSSS) they are the owners of the temples and shrines in Kashmir.
During the meeting representatives observed that Dharam Sathans are not the property of any individual or a group of individuals and least of the fake sadhus and Mahants whose very motive in opposing the sought for legislation is to control these temples as their personal fiefdom and misuse these for serving their personal ends. "The shrines and temples of any community are the heritage and trust of the community. So are the Hindu temples and shrines in Kashmir as symbols of Hindu ethos heritage and trust, the KP leaders added.
The KP leaders further alleged that the group of Mahants who have opposed the sought for legislation, are in fact the land grabbers and self seekers, who intend to trade on religion. Condemning the remarks from working president of the Samiti, Mahant Subhash Shah, the KP leaders have however stated that a large number of genuine and selfless Mahants and Sadhus, who have been discharging their responsibility as caretakers and pujaris of the temples, are also opposed to the group of these self styled Mahants. They fully support the cause and movement of the community for legislation to protect and manage the Hindu temples and Shrines in Kashmir. It was added that the sought for legislation takes care of the inalienable right of the genuine Mahants and pujaris to discharge their duties.

The prominent among others who attending the meeting included Dr. Agni Shekhar Chairman Panun Kashmir, B.L.Saraf Ex.District and Session Judge, Dr. R.L.Bhat President Kashmir Vichar Manch, A.K.Dewani Prominent Educanist, Bhushan Lal Bhat Ex.
