Strictly enforce metering system on Auto-Rickshaws: LC Chairman

JAMMU, Mar 19: Chairman Legislative Council Amrit Malhotra today directed transport department to take necessary steps for effective implementation of metering system on Auto Rickshaws across the state so that the commuters could not face any inconvenience. He gave this direction after the members of the House show concern over the non- functioning of metering system on Auto Rickshaws on a question by Sardar Dharam Bir Singh Oberio.
Earlier, the Minister of state for Transport Shabir Ahmed Khan while replying to a question informed the House that the Auto Rickshaws are equipped with fare meters. He said that Rs 1.87 lakhs has been booked under challan in last two years on Auto Rickshaws drivers.
He said that passenger fair of taxes is regulated as contract carried by the Transport Commissioner by notifying per Km's rates. He further informed that there is no proposal or introduction of metering in the taxi's. Bashir Ahmed Magray, Jehangir Hussain, Syed Mohammad Rafiq Shah asked their supplementaries to the question. Minister of State for R&B Javid Ahmed Dar today informed the Legislative Council that there is no immediate proposal for widening of Satkreei-Wakoora-Naryan Bagh Road.
The Minister was replying to a question by Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat. He said the preparation of project report is under process. Minister of State for planning Manohar Lal Sharma today informed the House that the construction work of two ambitious flyover projects include Jehangir Chowk to Natipora on the Airport Road and Bikram Chowk to Women's College Gandhi Nagar would be started in September-October 2012.
The Minister was replying to a question by Vijay Bakaya. He said that Jehangir Chowk Flyover would be constructed at an estimated cost of Rs. 256.66 crore and Bikram Chowk Flyover at an estimated cost of Rs. 95.50 crore, adding that the expected time for completion of each flyover will be three years after the works are physically taken up for execution.
