BJP will raise refugees' issue at appropriate platform: Manhas | Refugees too are human beings | | Early Times Report Jammu Mar 20: Addressing a massive public gathering under party's "Jan Sammelans' being org anised in ward No. 60 of Paloura area, BJP State president Shamsher Singh Manghas reminded the NC-Congress coalition in the state as well as Congress-led UPA at the centre that refugees too are human beings and hence deserve honour and dignity. Manhas reiterated that BJP will always raise their issue at all the appropriate platforms in future too. Manhas said it is indeed unfortunate that today even after 65 years of independence, lakhs of refugees from West Pakistan have not been granted citizenship rights. For decades, they are consistently agitating, holding protests, sitting on hunger strikes, courting arrests in different parts of the state. These people have been also observing hunger strikes even in New Delhi, but neither state government nor government at the centre have ever shown any concern towards their genuine demands, the BJP leader said. He said that it is not only refugees from West Pakistan but those from PoK too are seen coming on roads for grant of compensation. Those displaced in 1965 and 1971 are also having grievances. Manhas reiterated that BJP has been supporting the demands of refugees and declared that the party will always raise their issue at al the appropriate platform in future too. BJP State Vice-President Bali Bhagat said that the party has been reaching the people by organising such "Jan Sammelans" in order to educate them about the anti-people policies of the state government and mobilise their support in favour of the BJP so that we win maximum seats in the forthcoming local bodies elections. Karan Singh, Hans Raj Manhas, Joginder Singh Chib, Rajinder Singh Chib were prominent among others who also addressed the gathering. Meanwhile criticizing the recently presented Budget by the Union govt. State Convener Trade & Industry Cell J&K Ch Vikram Ranadhawa said that the budget is silent on the extension of exemption on the payment of income tax on the new industrial units in our militancy affected state. Ch Randhawa expressing resentment against the Union Budget in the industrial sector of the state has been totally ignored. "The UPA government has already diluted the Central Excise duty benefits by reducing the refund of central excise. Further no extension has been granted in the case of Income Tax holidays which is going to be expire on March 31, 2012. Under such circumstances no further industrial investment will come to J&K State, he added. |
