Statistics, Urdu win in inter-department cricket

JAMMU, Mar 20: Department of Statistics and Department of Urdu today registered convincing victories to move into the next round of the Inter-Department (Twenty20) Cricket Tournament underway at University of Jammu grounds, here. In the first match of the day, Statistics trounced Department of Mathematics by a big margin of 91 runs. Earlier, batting first, after Mathematics won the toss and opted to field, Statistics set a big target of 206 runs losing just one wicket. Sandeep played brilliant innings of 64-ball 95 runs including 15 hits to the fence while Abhimanyu contributed 65 (off 49 balls, 10x4). Rishav took the only wicket lost by Statistics. In reply, Department of Mathematics could not chase the total and exhausted their quota of 20 overs for 114 runs losing five wickets. Rishav and Rajiv were top scorers with 37 and 27 runs respectively while Hardeep and Rahul took two wickets each from Statistics. Meanwhile, in another match played today, Department of Urdu defeated School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (SHTM) by eight wickets. The SHTM, batting first bowled out for 92 runs in 16 overs. Arun Sharma, Amit and Sameer were top scorer with 24, 18 and 14 runs in their respective account. It was Mozam Khan, who caused the early dismissal of SHTM batting line up taking away six wickets for 14 runs in four overs spell. Rizwan and Arshad shared apiece each. Batting second, Department of Urdu overhauled the opponent total making 94 runs in 14 overs with eight wickets in hand. Arshad remained highest run getter with 44-ball 62 runs, while Mubshar contributed 12. From SHTM, Manoj and Karan Singh took one wicket each. Today's matches were officiated by Vijay Dogra, Dheeraj Sharma, Raj Kumar, Rajeev Sharma as umpires while Sat Paul was scorer.
