| Engineers enter finals; Simula faces JKAP in semis | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 20: Engineers XI thrashed Ramban XI easily today by7 wickets and entered finals, while Simula XI scripted thrilling one- run victory over Kishtwar XI and qualified for the semifinals to face JKP Armed XI in the ongoing 2nd Police Martyrs T20 Cricket Cup2012 at MA Stadium, here today.
In the semifinals played today ,Engineers XI outclassed Ramban XI by 7 wickets in a one-sided contest.
Batting first, Ramban XI scored 101 runs in the stipulated 20 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process. Yasir, Jahangir and Imran were the main contributors with 22, 20 and 11 runs respectively. For Enginners XI, Ravikant Puri was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets in his 4 overs by conceding 14 runs, while left-arm spinner Kuldeep Kumar was most economical bowler, taking 2 wickets in his 4 overs by giving away just 10 runs. Shabaz also took 2 important wickets.
In reply, Engineers XI chased the target in 16 overs by losing 3 wickets and won the match by 7 wickets. Zeeshan played a superb innings of 49 runs in 41 balls including 6 boundaries, while Manjeet Singh contributed 24 runs to the total. For Ramban XI, Tauseef took all three wickets to fell. Zeeshan was adjudged man of the match for his brilliant innings.
In another match played today, Simula XI got better of Kishtwar XI by one run in a nail biting contest and entered the semifinals.
Winning the toss and batting first, Simula XI scored a decent total of 161 runs in the stipulated 20 overs by losing 6 wickets .After struggling 25 for 4 at one stage Ram Dayal played a splendid innings of 62 runs in 39 balls with the help of 5 crispy boundaries, while Gulzar, Sameer Khajuria and Shubam Khajuria contributed 29, 25 and 20 runs to the total respectively to give their side respectibility . For Kishtwar Xi, Fida Hussain scalped 2 wickets,while Shabir and Sadam Hussain claimed one wicket each.
In reply, Kishtwar Xi fell short by one runs to help Simula XI seal berth in the semifinals. Salim played a gem of an innings of unbeaten 77 runs, while Asif contributed 46 runs to the total. For Simula XI, Ram Dayal took 2 wickets, while Hilal Rather claimed one wicket.
Ram Dayal was adjudged man of the match for his all-round performance.The matches were officiated by Sohail, Faroq, JD Singh and Yogesh. |
