World Forestry Day observed in Suchetgarh | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 20: Today on the eve of World Forestry Day, Global Green peace & Environmental protection GGPEP, NGO in collaboration with Vigyan Paryar, Department of Science & Technology, New Delhi organized a plantation drive at village Samka at Indo Pak Border of Suchetgarh constituency of R S Pura, Headmaster Govt. Middle School Bera Om Parkash was the chief guest while Pawan Dev Singh Chib Headmaster of Govt. Middle School Goupar Basti, attended the occasion as guest of honour. Chief guest in his address said that forest is essential for ecological balance of an area. Forests is an important component of our environment and economy. "Forest keeps the environment clean, provide shelter to large number of animals and help in raining besides making the soil fertile, he added. Pawan Dev Singh Chib in his address expressed concerns over the depleting forests and briefed that in the year 1900 an out 7000 million hectares of land was under forests which was reduced to 2890 million hectares in 1975 and in the year 2000, only 2300 million hectares of land remainder under forests. "If it continues it will cause a great harm to man, soil and climate, he said. President of GGPEP Devinder Choudhary highlighted the significant role of NGOs in the development of environment policy in many countries as well as emergence of global awareness about the state of environment. Various organizations VIPNET Club like Newton Bal Science Club Samka, GGPEP Science Club, Model Public School Smaka, Govt Middle School Goupar, Govt Middle School Bera, Govt Girls Pry School Samka etc took active part in the plantation drive. |
