Police picks up two dozen suspects for attack on Imam

Srinagar, Mar 20 : Around 22 suspects were rounded up by the police from Batamallo area on Tuesday in connection with the attack on the imam of a local mosque jalal-ud-din on Saturday evening last week.
The imam, who was shot at by three pheran clad militants with pistol when he was coming out of the house of his brother near his house at Firdousabad at Batamallo at about 9PM on Saturday.
The doctors at the hospital said that the Imam was recuperating after life-supporting device was removed from the patient on Tuesday.
Imam Jalal-ud-din was to hold Seerat Conference at the local shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Dawood at Batamallo on Sunday .
A senior police officer said, we have picked up several young boys from the area for questioning .This will lead us to the culprits soon, the officer added.
Meanwhile , people from different walks of life have condemned the attack on the Imam . senior Hurriyat Conference leader and National Front Chairman, Nayeem Ahmad Khan appealed all sections of society to raise their voice against such inhuman act so that the negative trend of attacking religious people can be discouraged in the first instance.
Expressing deep anger he said that the ghost of unknown gunmen has once again started it's activities in Kashmir and this time even religious leaders are also under their attack.
The members of the Hazrat Sheikh Dawood (RH) Khadmat Khalaq Foundation, Batamaloo, have strongly condemned the murderous attack on its chief patron Peer Jalal-ud-Din Bangroo, vowing to expose the attackers and bring them to justice.
"We make a promise with people that the attackers of Peer Jalal-ud-Din will be exposed very soon and brought to justice," a spokesman of the Foundation said in a statement.
He said a meeting of the Foundation was held here this morning and the participants thanked thousands of devotees who participated in the Seerat Conference held at Batmaloo here on Sunday.
The members in particular thanked the Ulema including Moulana Akhzar Hussain, Moulana Mubarak Hussain Rubani, Moulana Fayaz Ahmad Rizvi, Moulana Ghulam mohi-ud-Din Naqeeb, Moulana Qazi Ahmad Yasir, Moulana Ghulam Rasool Hami, Moulana Sajjad Ahmad Ashbari and Moulana Syed Bilal Ahmad Kirmani for participating in Conference and delivering inspiring sermons.
