Gold smiths demanded roll back of the budgetary proposals | | | Early Times Report
KATHUA , March 21 : The gold shops and market of Distt Kathua remained closed for fourth consecutive day today and traders continued protest against the proposals to raise duty on gold imports and levying excise duty on unbranded jewellery. Major gold market in Kathua at Vijay market remained closed and gold smiths protested against the budgetary proposals of the union govt. The Akhil Bhartya Swaran Kar sang held protest at Vijay market. The Advisor of Akhil Bhartya Swaran Karsang Kathua Des Raj Sharma said that for the past several years the gold prices went up and it has affected the gold trade as common people can't afford it now. He said that proposed hike in import duty on gold and levying of 1 percent excise duty on non-branded jewellery would affect business and wipe off the existence of small jewelers in the state. The gold smiths demanded roll back of the budgetary proposals. They urged the State Govt to use his influence for getting these proposals revoked wherein they protested against the central Govt decision to impose excise duty of 1 percent on unbranded jewellery and 4 percent import duty on gold. In the Distt, jewellery shops remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on the call given by all India Saraf association. In this protest Kaka Dhamalia, Vinod Dhamalia, Ashwani (Mani), Pawan Kumar, Dev Raj, Brij Mohan, Sardari Lal, Nani, Lovely and Sonu were present. |
