| Engagement of Anganwari workers on merit basis, claims Social Welfare Minister | | | JAMMU, JAN 23 The criteria adopted for engagement of Anganwari workers at the time of their selection is based on pure merit. The minimum qualification required for this post is matric and weightage is given to higher qualifications. This was stated today by Minister for Social Welfare Haji Nisar Ahmad in reply to clubbed question by G. M. Jan,. Kafil-ur-Rehman, Thakur Puran Singh, Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Sofi and Ghulam Ahmad Mir in the Legislative Assembly today. As regards Anganwari Helpers, it has been decided that the concerned Child Development Officer will visit the site of rent-free accommodation offered by each applicant and furnish his recommendations alongwith reasons to the concerned Selection Committee in respect of the applicants whom he considers suitable for engagement as Anganwari Helpers. The selection of Anganwari workers has been made strictly as per set norms on merit basis and same procedure was adopted by the department throughout the state including district Kupwara. The criteria adopted by the department for setting up of Anganwari centres is one Anganwari Centre for 1000 souls in urban areas, one Anganwari centre for 700 souls in some urban areas, one Anganwari centres for 500 souls in rural areas and one Anganwari centre for 300 souls in hilly terrain/inaccessible/scattered/tribal areas. As many as 427 Anganwari centres were established at different locations in district Kupwara upto the end of financial year 2005-06. The government has submitted a proposal to Central Government for creation of additional Anganwari centres for left out villages/areas of the state, which includes Darhal constituency also. During the two years 166 sewing machines have been distributed to the beneficiaries in tehsil Haveli, of which 60 were distributed in 2004-05 and 106 in 2005-06. Mr. Sharief-ud-Din Shariq, Mr. Sartaj Madni and Mr. M. Y. Tarigami raised supplementaries to the question.
