`JU's Poonch campus a distant dream' | | | Early Times Report
Poonch, Mar 22: Four years on, the Poonch campus of Jammu University is still operating in a single room. The `campus' was inaugurated by former Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad on February 14, 2008 in a room of Degree College Poonch at a colorful function attended by ministers, academicians, legislators and prominent citizens of Poonch. It was announced in the grand function that the first floor of the District Institute of Education and Trainings, Poonch shall be handed over to the University for running BCA, MCA , M.Ed and Post Graduate classes in Urdu. Soon after, the possession of the DIET building was handed over to the University but the much awsaited project failed to take off. No renovation is made, no other class/course is started and the university campus is functioning in one room where e-learning classes are running. According to experts, this course is meant for Higher Secondary Part II(12th class) pass students. The students have been left at the mercy of the instructors. It is still functioning in that one room. Professor J.S Tara was appointed as Coordinator of this campus who was later promoted and appointed as Dean University of Jammu and Professor Kuljeet Singh from Jammu University replaced him. The authorities also visited village Dingla 4 kms away from Poonch town and identified land for the permanent establishment of the university campus. But this venture too has remained confined to papers. Surprisingly, the government during the same period announced establishment of the university campuses at Bhaderwah and Kupwara. At both the places full-fledged campuses have been established, PG classes have started, campus buildings have come up, requisite staff comprising of officers and officials have been appointed.
