Jammu, Mar 22: Burnt in 2011 under a conspiracy, the R&B Division Sanku Valley Zanskar is yet to be probed despite solid evidences against the accused. On April 14, 2011, the R&B Division Sanku valley in Kargil district was set ablaze by two locals at the behest of an equal number of officials of the same department, however, the duo who put the complex on fire were critically injured with one receiving 100% injuries and another about 80%. Shabir Hussain s/o Mirza Hussain r/o Sahibkote died three days latter on April 17, however, his statement was recorded by the police before he died and another person identified as Abdul Hussain s/o Muhammad Moosa r/o Kusar Sankoo who was accompanying Shabir also gave a statement to the police implicating one Muhammad Azam store keeper in R&B Sankoo Valley Division and Haji Jaffer who was then stock-clerk in the same division. Both were arrested by the police but released on bail a few days latter.
Police recovered a huge quantity of government supply which include cement and sarya from the residence of Haji Jaffer but till date no formal inquiry has been ordered into the matter.
Locals accuse that both official are closely associated with ruling National Conference and are also believed to be enjoying proximity to the Chief Executive of Ladakh Hill Development Council, Kargil. It is alleged that police under influence, has hushed up the case.
All the records of the division including CDRs and deposits, stock and supply records and even service records were burnt completely rendering R&B Division Sanku, R&B Sub Division Sanku, R&B Sub division Tansuru and R&B Sub Division Barsu Nallah record-less as all the offices were functioning under the same roof. Though the R&B Division has been shifted to Executive Engineer's residential quarter, however, the office is functioning without records and liabilities and financial implications on various road projects cannot be located resulting in complete breakdown of the system with contractors and labours alike bearing the brunt. It is alleged that government supply worth hundreds of Lakhs has gone missing which the locals believe has been dumped by the erring officials at unknown places.
