Diabetes rising in youngsters: Jitendra | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Mar 22: A Diabetes awareness cum detection programme was organized by "Peaks Auto (Pvt) Ltd" in their Maruti show-room premises at Kunjwani in Jammu here today at which renowned Diabetologist and National Professor of Diabetes, Dr. Jitendra Singh delivered a public lecture on Diabetes and also led a team of doctors to examine the patients. The programme began with a brief address by "Peaks Auto" Executive Director Jarnail Singh who welcomed Dr Jitendra Singh and his team of doctors including Dr Sandeep Dhar and Dr Pankaj Gupta. Dr. Jitendra Singh said that in the first quarter of 21st century, the two major challenges facing India will be rising prevalence of Diabetes in young and Diabetes in women. With rapidly increasing youth population in the country, if diabetes occurring at young age is not detected and managed in time, this can lead to loss of vital youth power for the nation. He referred to a number of youngsters succumbing to heart attack and only thereafter coming to know that they had diabetes. Pointing to a large number of corporate executives present in the audience, he said the stress of professional competitiveness and deadlines is also contributing to vulnerability to Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus. Quoting from one of his best-seller books "Diabetes made Easy", Dr Jitendra Singh said, the diabetic who knows the most lives the longest and hence optimum diabetes education is the key to its prevention and control. He cautioned against dissimulation and fake remedies promoted through certain quacks and advertisements. While new genetic and stem cell remedies are in pipeline for treatment of diabetes, Dr Jitendra Singh said the basic mantra is lifestyle, healthy diet, avoiding junk food, regular exercise and freedom from stress. Senior executives from Peaks Auto present on the occasion included DGM Kulbir Kotwal, Vikram Singh and Dhanesh Dogra who conducted the programme and said such programmes will be organised in future as well. At the camp, a large number of people got their blood tests done free of cost and were also provided free medicine. |
