| Quality mulberry sapling being provided to farmers: Zargar | | | Jammu, Jan 23
The Sericulture department is providing quality Mulberry Saplings of improved varieties to the people besides rearing kits, roofing material. Chemicals and disinfectants etc are being provided to the rearers for control of diseases to boost the cocoon production in Udhampur district.
The cocoon crop produced by the farmers in the state is disposed of in notified cocoon auction markets by open auction through open bid system. The highest bid of a cocoon lot is accepted by the seller otherwise the lot is put to fresh auction and the department has no role in fixing the bid price.
This information was given in Legislative Assembly today by Minister for Agriculture Production Mr. Abdul Aziz Zargar in reply to a question by Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia. Replying to his supplementary, the Minister said that enhancement of cocoon rate by Rs. 5 to 10 per kg would be considered actively.
Mr. Abdul Rehman Veeri, Mir Saifullah and Mr. G. M. Saroori raised supplementaries to the question.
