Residential plots for MLA'S, Media: Govt accused of ignoring their needs

Jammu, Mar 22: Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand triggered a chain reaction in the lower house on Thursday over the issue of allotting residential plots to elected representatives and media persons. Replying to a direct question of BJP MLA Jugal Kishore soon after deputy chief minister informed the house that even though the Jammu development authority is exploring the possibility of availability of chunk of land at Majeen Village near Sidhra and in Kot Bhalwal area for the development of residential colony for legislators and others he advised the elected representatives to wait for some time and not push the case. The minister incharge Housing and urban development department cited different reasons including prevailing security situation and scarcity of funds at the disposal of govt agencies to give preference to legislators ignoring the housing needs of poor and needy. His remark agitated several members sitting on the opposition benches. Several PDP, BJP and Panthers party MLA's were immediately seen on their legs protesting against the ministers remarks. MLA's from PDP and BJP said they were not asking for any pittance from the state government. BJP MLA Jugal Kishore said if deputy chief minister is so worried about housing needs of the poor and needy he should give them the priority and allot them the plots first. In the milee the agitated MLA's also attacked the senior ministers for remaining silent on the issue. The members from the opposition benches were heard saying these ministers are occupying palatial houses worth crores of rupees and some of the MLAs' are struggling for a decent accommodation. The ministers should surrender their bunglows if they are serious, the members added. Not willing to spare the irresponsible remark by the minister incharge BJP MLA Jugal Kishore said if these ministers are engaged in removing their own poverty. They are the real poor and looking after their concerns well. He provoked the minister to allot the plots to media persons claiming that they are not so rich people as you want to help the poor and needy.
