100 Kanals of temple land given to two locals of Pulwama in South Kashmir | Dharmarth trust under cloud Road constructed over Shishu Samadhi, Shamshan Ghat | | Syed Junaid Hashmi Jammu, Mar 22: High profile Dharmarth Trust, which is headed by Congress Member Parliament (MP) Dr. Karan Singh, has allegedly handed over two power of attorneys of around 100 Kanals of land belonging to Jawala Ji Asthapan at Khrew in Pampore area of Pulwama district of South Kashmir. To compound the miseries, one of the two attorney holders has begun selling the allotted land in the shape of residential plots. The road to these plots passes through the piece of land which has been kept by displaced Kashmiri pandits for religiously sacred Shishu Samadhi and Shamshan Ghat. Trucks plied over this sacred land for months altogether while the authorities were in deep slumber. Some Kashmir pandits, which are part of Shri Jawala Ji Samiti, noticed the alleged wrong and took up the issue, first with the administration and later with Dharmarth Trust. Administration ensured that allotted land is not misused and sold while the high profile trust rebuffed the allegations, terming them as false and motivated. In complete contrast to the statement of the Dharmarth trust that revenue record has been corrected and there is no encroachment of land, Kashmir Pandit body has through a letter addressed to Chairman of the Trust Dr. Karan Singh claimed that trust has given two Power of attorneys to two individual parties. Of these two, one is Abdul Rashid son of Abdul Khaliq Durani, a resident of village Drangbal in Pampore Tehsil of Pulwama district. He has been given the power attorney for 60 Kanals and 7 marlas of agricultural land comprised in Khasra no.2763, Khewat No.1657. Durani, was reportedly earlier an employee of Dharmarth trust, has allotted half of the said land to tillers in violation of the land laws in vogue. Land laws strictly do not allow subletting of temple land. The other attorney of 40 Kanals of land, according to the letter, has been given to one Mehraj-ud-Din son of Ghulam Ahmed Sheikh, who is local. The said power of attorneys have been registered in the court of 3rd additional Munsiff (Sub-Registrar) under no. 116 dated 2-12-2010 and no. 89 dated 8-11-2010 respectively, claims the letter. Regarding Dharmarth trust's claim that there were no murties as a sign of demarcation over the disputed land, the Kashmir Pandit group has stated that these have been removed to other places with ulterior motive of making encroachments easier while adding that they have relevant photographs to substantiate their point. They have accused trust of non-performance and said that statement is contradictory. Pandit bodies have asked Dharmarth land to issue a white paper immediately indicating details of the encroachments in respect of each Shrine in the Valley and action taken by the Trust and the present status thereof. They have claimed that Dharmarth Trust has never taken actual control of Sharika Ji Asthapan but the said Shrine has been looked after by its managing committee comprising of Kashmiri Pandit (KP) community members for last more than 60 years. Regarding the allegation of Dharmarth trust that some Samitis are crying to prove their existence after hibernating from the Valley, the KP body has said that exodus of KPs from the Valley has been declared as a human tragedy by Indian Parliament, National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and even by Supreme Court of India and also by various international organizations. They have accused one of the employees of Dharmarth trust of having thinking on the issue of exodus of Kashmiri Pandits similar to separatists. Pandit bodies have said that both cultivable and fallow land is available around the hillock which, as per revenue records, belongs to the Hindu community and is under the control of the Trust while adding that Dharmarth Trust should immediately take damage control measure by withdrawing the power of attorney of the land given to locals so that the faith of Kashmiri Pandits is restored in the Trust. |
