What happened to interlocutors' report? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Mar 24: Four months have passed since New Delhi's nominated interlocutors submitted their report to the Home Ministry. The report, most probably, is gathering dust in the Home Minister's office as he seems in no hurry to consider the `crucial report'. The people of Jammu Kashmir have been indifferent to the very process from the very beginning. Surprisingly the Interlocutors lost patience. Their chief even sought intervention of former Chief Minister, Mufti Muhammad Sayed. However, he too could not help. The reluctance of New Delhi to consider the report, according to a Hurriyat activist, has vindicated the stand of the separatists. Pertinent to mention the separatists boycotted the interlocutors though some met them `unofficially'. The issue has not been taken up for discussion in the Legislative Assembly so far. The Chief Minister's interest in the process can be gauged from the fact that he repeatedly urged the separatists to meet the team. The Interlocutors were appointed in October 2010 following the agitation that left 120 persons dead in Kashmir. The team visited far flung areas of the state several times to know about peoples' aspirations. They met journalists, civil society actors, politicians and detained militants. New Delhi compensated them handsomely for the `good job'. They got a monthly salary of Rs 1.50 lack each and the executive assistants appointed by them got Rs 40,000 every month. In addition, the interlocutors were treated as state guests during their visits to the state. |
