Axe may fall on some ministers in scheduled ‘cabinet reshuffle and expansion’
3/25/2012 5:27:34 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Mar 24: Legislators belonging to the Congress and the National Conference in Jammu and Kashmir find themselves under the shadow of a sword hanging over their head following reports that the cabinet reshuffle and expansion either after the end of the ongoing budget session of the state legislature or after the completion of the civic elections.
Sources in the Congress said that no doubt the budget session of the stat e legislature is due to end early next month it all depends on the schedule that is fixed for the civic elections. They said in case the schedule for the civic elections is fixed for the end of April in that case the cabinet expansion and reshuffle may take place towards the third week of May.
The sources said that in case the civic elections were to be held somewhere in May or June the cabinet expansion and reshuffle may take place by the middle of next month.
Congress sources claim that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, is not keen on filling three vacant seats in the council of ministers on the plea that since out of three seats only one is to be filled with an NC legislator Omar Abdullah does not want to encourage groupism in his party when there are more than four NC legislators keen to get cabinet berth.
No doubt the task for the Congress may not be as difficult as it is for the NC while filling two seats. What worries the Congress ministers is their fate during the exercise on expansion and reshuffle of the cabinet. At least four ministers in present state cabinet are having uncertainty looming on their future and have fears that they may lose their cabinet rank or may get their important and significant portfolios clipped.
Meanwhile the Congress is also pondering whether to rehabilitate its senior party leaders MLA G A Mir and G M Saroori since Mir got eclipsed for his alleged involvement in Srinagar Sex Scam while Saroori had to lost his cabinet post following his name clicked into ‘impersonation case in the entrance examination in which his daughter was a candidate.
Congress being coalition partner has to take this also in consideration that out of the 22 districts over five have no representations in the council of ministers. “In addition to this the ruling coalition may add to its political weight if representation to two main minority communities, the Kashmiri Pandits and the Sikhs, was given in the council of ministers, sources added.
